*White cross stands for Christianity
*Red is for sacrifices for freedom
* Blue is for freedom
*Colors were taken from Haitian flag

The Dominicans chose these colors for their flag because they all stand for something important. Christianity is the most prominent religion in this area so they have a white cross that separates the square into quarters. The two red squares are for sacrifices for freedom. They had to fight Haiti to gain independence from them. And finally, blue is for the freedom they have now. Although they are separate from Haiti, they still contain the same                                                                                                  flag colors from them because at one point the countries were united.
