Dominican Republic

Economics

The Dominican Republic is mainly an agricultural country. Their main crops are coffee, sugar, pineapple, cocoa, tobacco, and rice. Besides farming jobs, the country also has some industrial jobs. These include sugar refining, mining, cement pouring, and pharmaceuticals. The main industry though is tourism, which helps with economic expenses. Unemployment is rising and 1/4 of Dominicans are now living in poverty. Women especially do not have access to economic prosperity.

*I believe that the economy is decent. It’s not weak yet it’s not very strong. Seventy percent have jobs either in an industry, in the agricultural field, or in services and the country is able to produce some of its own food. I think that the job industry needs some work.
